You may have heard the term individual cremation
and wondered what does that mean?
Some of our clients have wanted to know more about the process of what happens to their beloved pet after they have been brought into our care. So we have created a simple practical guide to individual pet cremation for those wanting to know more about the process.
Collection
Once we have been instructed, we will collect your pet from your home or vets in our customised van if required. At Dorset Pets our ethos is to make your beloved pet’s final journey as comfortable and dignified as possible; we will place your pet in a bed with a blanket. Feel free to place any toys with them. If you prefer you can accompany your pet and bring them to our premises.

Preparation
We will place your pet in our cool room and prepare them for cremation. We will record their unique chip number using our specialised chip reader, take a keepsake fur clipping, and any paw prints if required. Some families have also opted to spend time in our Farewell room to say their final goodbye.

Cremation
Once all documentation has been accepted and payment has been made, we will then cremate your beloved pet. Using our bespoke stretcher your pet will be gently placed in the cremation chamber and the process will then begin. We use Addfields Pet Cremators our cremator operators record the time of cremation and personal details of your pet within our cremation logbook, so your pet’s paperwork stays with them every step of the way.

Aftercare
Once the cremation has been completed our operators will carefully remove your pets remains from the chamber and place them in a collection tray to cool. Once they are cool, they are placed in a specialised machine known as a cremulator where any bone fragments will be turned into a fine powder/ ash. The ashes are then placed into a scatter tube. At Dorset Pets we include a scatter tube as part of our cremation service. We can place the ashes in an alternative casket if requested.

Ashes
We can return your pets ashes to you, or you can collect from us. Along with the ashes you will receive a certificate of authenticity for the cremation, fur clippings and any other keepsake you have requested. We often are asked to separate ashes for jewellery.
